MUMBAI : Astrong mob of 2,000 locals including the parents of the 16 year old boy from Nalla Sopara, who had drowned in the Suraj Water Park during a school picnic on Friday, was lathicharged by the Nalla Sopara police as the crowd gheraoed before the Navjeevan Hindi High School where they also kept the boy' s body before the school gate, demanding justice. However, Sr PI D Dhole of Kasarvadavli police said that the boy died due to an epileptic fit while waiting for his turn for a ride on the water slide, and we are awaiting the post mortem report and a case of accidental death have been registered.
Deepak Chandrakant Gupta (16) a Class X student of the Navjeevan Hindi High School, Ostwal Nagari, Nalla Sopara (E) drowned at the Suraj Water Park in Thane during on a day's school picnic on Friday afternooon. The boy reportedly met a tragic end while waiting for his ride and died due to an epileptic fit,said police.
On Friday night, when the body of the boy arrived, the mob first gathered before the school gate, but the Nalla Sopara police convinced them to return and the mob dispersed. But on Saturday morning, the mob reassembled before the school gate and blamed the school for negligence and demanded justice,said Datta Totewad, DySP, Nalla Sopara. We again tried to convince them, but the crowd refused to budge and they had brought the boy's body and refused to cremate it until justice is done,said the official. The body was kept in an ambulance which had arrived from Thane and for four hours, the crowd refused to disperse,said the official. We had to take action so as to prevent a law and order issue,said Totewad and the situation was brought under control. A strong possee of police from Tulinj, Virar, Waliv, Vasai and Nalla Sopara were called for extra security due to the huge crowd,said Totewad.
