MUMBAI : Mumbai bound train traffic was partially hit after 4 buffaloes were run over by the 590436 Up Valsad- Bandra Passenger train between Dahanu and Vangaon on Thursday evening.
In the incident, the cattle guard of the engine got partially damaged due to the cattle strike as cadaver parts got stuck to the safety guard. Rail traffic got delayed for 30 minutes said Akshay Bari an eyewitness and passenger of the train.
Normally when cattle hit the cattle guard, the animals usually get thrown away, but since buffaloes are heavy, they got entangled and the cattle guard sometime gets damaged said railway sources. It took time to remove the carcasses strewn all over the tracks after the mishap.

Ravinder Bhakar,CPRO,Western Railway, said, we will file a case against the unknown owners of the buffaloes with the RPF,Dahanu for endangering rail safety as per policy.

When asked about the barricading the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad section to avoid such cases, Bhakar  said a proposal has been sent to the Railway Board for constructing boundary wall along the high speed corridor under the Mission Raftaar of as sanctioned under the Railway Budget of 2016-17. There are 6 routes identified under the Mission Raftaar including Mumbai-Delhi,Mumbai-Howrah,Mumbai-Chennai and other routes said WR sources.
