MUMBAI : Four students some studying in Junior KG and Nursery of Sir J P International School, in Palghar, were injured, after the bus in which they were travelling rammed into a tree on Monday afternoon. There were 16 students,and a lady attendant in the bus and the driver also received head injuries.

According to PSI Umesh Rote of Satpati Coastal police station, the bus-MH 04 FK 2391- was taking 16 students to their destination in Kelwe Road from the school, when the driver, Vishnu Patil (64) while crossing a rivulet lost control of the bus and rammed into a tree. As a result, four students received injuries and were rushed to the Dr Dhawale Memorial Hospital,Palghar, while the rest of the students were treated at the government hospital,said PSI Rote.

The driver is also admitted in the same hospital,he said. According to Patil, while proceeding on the Mahim Road (not Mumbai), he suddenly lost control of the bus, presumably due to a  burst tyre and the bus rammed into a road side tree. However, eyewitnesses said that Patil was overspeedng  on the narrow road,and the bus roof has been torn apart, due to the collission against the tree,said PSI Rote.

We have booked case against Patil under Section 279 (rash driving), 337,338  (causing hurt) and 427 (mischief) of the IPC and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act,said the official, and we will arrest Patil as soon as he is discharged from the hospitaland confirmed Patil was not drunk at the time of the accident.. According to sources, Patil is a retired ST bus driver and is employed by the school since the past 6 years. The bus was reduced to a shambles, as the entire roof has been ripped apart.
