MUMBAI : Around 501 tribal couples from Palghar district entered the wedlock in Boisar on Saturday afternoon. The couples were blessed by Raj Thackeray, MNS chief and his wife, Sharmila. This is the first such mass wedding organised by the MNS in Palghar district,said Kundan Sankhe, organiser of the community wedding.
The couples are poor tribals, who could not afford weddings, so the MNS decided to play matchmaker and organised the mass wedding, said Sankhe. Around 22,000 people were present at the ceremony.
The MNS took care of the entire expenses and also provided the married couples 25 household items including cupboards, utensils,wedding attire and 1 gram gold mangalsutra to the bride and we are also planning to give a fixed deposit if a girl child is born to them,said Sankhe.
Raj Thackeray and his wife Sharmila performed the "kanyadhaan" of Kavita Chaitya Barga of Palghar,who got married to Vivek Dhodi also from Palghar. Majority of the tribal couples hailed from Jawhar, Mokhada, Vikramgadh, Palghar, Dahanu, Talasari, Wada and other areas in Palghar district.
