MUMBAI : Continuing its drive to detect and initiate action against quacks, the Health Department of the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC), alongwith the Tulinj police on Thursday arrested 6 persons from Nalla Sopara, who were found to be operating as medicos without any certificates. One accused managed to flee in the melee.
The VVMC team led by Dr Rajendra Chauhan, Chief Medical Officer surveyed clinics in Santosh Bhuvan, Shriram Nagar, Kargil Nagar, and other areas, and arrested Sanjaykumar Singh, Sabjeet Gautam, Dudhnath Yadav, Manoj Gupta, Krishnachandra Pal and Ramjeet Pal from the above areas, while one quack managed to escape while we were verifying the documents,said Dr Chauhan. The quacks were prescribing Allopathic medicines even though they are unauthorised to do so, while we found huge stocks of anaesthetic injections and salines in the makeshift clinics,said Dr Chauhan.
The Tulinj police have registered case under Section 419(punishment for cheating by personation) of the IPC and also applied Sections under the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners' Act,1961. According to reports, there are around 300 quacks operating in the Vasai-Virar belt and the VVMC have urged citizens and NGOs to inform them if they know any medicos practising without any valid documents.
