ACCUSED DIES IN ARNALA LOCKUP

MUMBAI : A 46 year old accused died in a police lockup of the Arnala Coastal Police station on late Saturday night. The Arnala police have registered a case of accidental death and the post mortem report is awaited. However, police said the accused had an epileptic fit and died but the postmortem report is awaited.

Vidyadhar Harishchandra Kini (46) was arrested on Saturday for assaulting under Section 326 of the IPC after he attacked his brother with a lathi, causing severe head injuries to the brother, in February. Since the incident, he was absconding, and the Arnala police arrested him on Saturday afternoon, months after the incident. ​

At around 2000 hours on Saturday, he reportedly died in the lockup and ​the doctors declared him dead before admission. Said a PRO of the Palghar police, the accused died due to fits, and we are awaiting the post mortem report.
