The Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Shipping and Transport Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for the new bridge to be built over the Versova creek on Thursday afternoon besides announcing other 7 new projects in Palghar and Thane districts.The function was held at the SK Stone in Mira Road.

  The Rs 247 crore, 8 lane new bridge would be completed within 2 years and will not have any signals for smoother traffic flow, said Gadkari. And if everything goes well, and after getting support from the State government and the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation, we may inaugurate the new bridge within 18 months,he said. In Maharashtra, we are starting or completing around Rs 1 lakh crore worth of projects, and this is for the progress of the State,he said.

  The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded the 2.250 km  long bridge  contract to an Ahmedabad firm and the work will start at the earliest, as all environmental clearances and other permissions are in place,said a NHAI official.

  Meantime, Gadkari also laid the foundation stone for the widening to six laning of highway near the Sanjay Gandhi National Park,Borivali, construction of vehicle under pass at Pandurangwadi, construction of foot over bridge near Daras Dhaba on the NH8, underpass at Sativali, Dhaniwari, Maljipada in Palghar district, and expansion of 23.5 km road from Vadpe to Thane.
