MUMBAI : Nitin Chafe (20) has been arrested for the murder of 36 year old Rupali Chavan, a BJP worker. Chafe was arrested from Latur and was employed as a cook cum househelp in the house of Chavan since the past few months. Robbery and revenge was the main motive as after the murder, Chafe using Chavan's credit card withdrew Rs 1.25 lakh from an ATM and fled to Latur.
Said Vijaykant Sagar, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vasai, a few weeks ago, Chavan had scolded Chafe and since then was seething with anger. Also Chavan was to set up a footwear shop in Nalla Sopara and her bank had sanctioned Rs 2.80 lakh personal loan, said Sagar. Chavan stayed alone in her flat in Sai Leela Tower in Nilemore village in Nalla Sopara, as she is divorced from her husband, Dilip and the couple have a 12 year old son who stays with Chavan's father in Nalla Sopara and would visit his mother regularly, said Sagar. According to an official of the Nalla Sopara police station, the victim had her neck slit with a sharp knife, and worse, she had hot iron scorch marks all over her body, indicating that the killer may have tortured her to death. The body was found in her bedroom, and was atleast 2 days old, as neighbours told that the victim was not seen last Sunday, said police. The killer after the act, just bolted the door from the outside and left from the crime scene, said police.
