Delhi Police nab India's Bin Laden of Mira Road
Mumbai: With the ensueing Republic Day just a few days from today, the special cell of the Delhi Police nabbed a terrorist of SIMI-Indian Mujahideen, following a brief encounter. When produced before the court he has been sent to 14-day police custody remand.
The terrorist, identified as Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer, was involved in the 2008 serial blasts which took place in Gujarat. He is also wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Tauqeer was arrested on Saturday with a few live cartridges,pistols and other arms.
Said Pramod Kushwaha, DCP Special Cell, we received a tip-off that Tauqeer, was to meet his aide in Ghazipur,Delhi. We laid a trap and my cops arrested him. Quereshi is India's most wanted terrorist who is also the founder of Indian Mujahideen. He was again trying to revive Indian Mujahideen,said Kushwaha.
Qureshi was to meet his aides in Ghazipur and was not planning any conspiracy in the National Capital Region(NCR).Tauqeer is reportedly an ace
bomb maker has often been nicknamed as India's Bin Laden. He is also suspected to have been responsible for participating in the Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Delhi bombings.
A Red Corner Notice had also been issued against Qureshi by Interpol, besides an arrest warrant by a court in Gujarat for his alleged involvement in Ahmedabad blasts case of 2008.
Tauqeer is also accused of being originally a commander of the banned terror outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who later with the help of other terrorists launched the Indian Mujahideen.
