A man was thrashed by locals, after he attempted to kidnap two minors in Bhayander (W) on Saturday late evening. He was later handed over to the Bhayander police who arrested him for kidnapping and is remanded in police custody by the Thane court.
The accused, Manu Jaiswal (30) first kidnapped a 18 month child from a building behind the Secondary School, Bhayander, when the child's mother raised an alarm and in panic, Jaiswal kept the infant on the ground and ran away said PI Rajendra Kamble of Bhayander police station. A few metres away, he saw Hash Purohit (4) playing with other boys in the building premises, and Jaiswal targetted Yash and offered chocolates to the boy, but locals got suspicious as they found that Jaiswal was talking to Harsh and Jaiswal was a stranger in the locality, so they decided to chase him, said Kamble. On seeing the mob, Jaiswal ran away, but the locals surrounded him and gave him a sound thrashing and then we were informed and we arrested Jaiswal for kidnapping after Imtiaz Malivya, father of the infant complained to us,said Kamble. When produced before the Thane court, Jaiswal was remanded in police custody and we found that Jaiswal was pitch drunk and wanted to kidnap the child for ransom so as to fund his drinking habit, said police.
