MUMBAI : A man has been arrested by the Virar police for allegedly stabbing his sister in law to death over a property dispute. Arti Gundale (32) lived with her husband Shashikant (36) and children in a chawl in Annapada, Ambedkarnagar, Virar (E). Shashikant's mother had bequeathed the 120 square feet chawl room to her eldest son, Shashikant, four years ago and since then the family stayed in the house. However, Shrikant (30), the younger brother of Shashikant would always demand a share in the property and on Monday late evening, in a drunken state, a fight ensued between Arti and Shrikant and in a fit of rage, Shrikant who had brought along a knife stabbed Arti in the back, chest and head area due to which she died instantly, while her husband Shashikant was at work,said a Virar police official. Her neighbours rushed Arti to the Sanjeevani Hospital, but was declared dead before admission, said police. Based on Shashikant's complaint we arrested Shrikant from a nearby locality in Virar where he stayed alone for murder, and he confessed to the crime and also we seized the killer knife,said the official. When produced before the Vasai court on Tuesday, the accused has been remanded in police custody.
