STATE EXCISE COP CHARGED FOR ABUSING JOURNALIST

A constable with the Excise Department, Dahanu has been charged by the Dahanu police for abusing a journalist of a Hindi news channel when the latter went to cover a story last week. No arrest  has been made so far by the police.

The cop, Devidas Suryavanshi, attached to the State Excise department allegedly abused Yogesh Chandekar, a journalist with a Hindi news channel, when he got information that Suryavanshi was allegedly  accepting bribes from bootleggers to transport illicit liquor from Daman to Dahanu, Palghar, Vasai and other interior areas in Palghar district.

I was asking for a response of the allegations,  to which the cop abused me in the filthiest of language and as a result, I complained to the Dahanu police as well to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Excise, Palghar in this regard,said Chandekar.. We have charged Suryavanshi under Section 507 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC though no arrest has been made,said an official.

In mid-August, an  inter-State gang was busted by the State Excise department, wherein the gang would procure cheap beer from neighbouring Daman and Silvassa Union Territories and would store the beer in a godown in Virar where the men would replace the stickers and caps on the bottles and sold the fake beer as if the beer was brewed in Maharashtra. Around 105 cases of the fake  beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was seized from the godown, which was to be sold to rural hamlet in Virar and Vasai area. In November 2014, the Excise department had raised a beer factory in Talasari,Palghar where fake beer was being manufactured where cheap beer and soda were mixed and then sealed.
