His brother, Amit (29) also committted suicide by consuming rat poison in 20 January 2018, due to the lack of progress in the Vikas Jha suicide case.

In February 2018, the case was taken over by the CID, which arrested PI Shaikh under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC however, the main accused Munaf Baloch is still absconding, since then, said Vinaykant Jha (48) father of the two victims. I demand a CBI inquiry into the matter and it is shocking that the Superintendent of Police (SP) Manjunath Singe has not arrested Baloch, and is so called absconding. The police is clearing backing Baloch in the case, and it is now 8 months, no arrest have been made, said Vinaykant.

My family, which stays in Suram Park, Phoolpada, Virar(E), have decided to commit suicide before the SP office, Palghar andi I will also join in the act, said Ekta Jha, youngest and only surviving daughter of the family,as her two brothers are already dead. On Friday late evening the Jha family took out a candle light march demanding the arrest of Baloch.

My late son, Vikas has been falsely booked by the police and the said PI Shaikh would often demand money and that too in lakhs, so that Vikas could get bail from the Vasai court, said Vinaykant who runs a small wafer making business in Virar. My other son, Amit committted suicide alleging that PI Shaikh was being protected by his superiors, including the SP Singe, and we demand strong action against the higher police authorities and if no action is taken, the entire family will commit suicide in front of the SP's office, said Vinaykant.

Before committing suicide, Vikas had reportedly recorded a video accusing police officers including PI Shaikh of harassing him. In November 2016 during the demonetization period, Vikas had allegedly fled with Rs 5 lakh old notes belonging to a Nalasopara trader who had filed a complaint with the Virar police. In the video, Vikas had alleged that PI Shaikh had made false cases against him and was demanding money in lakhs. Vikas had alleged that each time he got arrested, he had to spend a couple of lakhs to come out of jail.
