Mumbai:In a shocking incident a Std VII girl committed suicide in the bathroom of a government school, while the Jawhar based school was celebrating Republic Day. The Jawhar police have registered a case of accidental death while a suicide note has been recovered.
The school at Dehere in Jawhar is run under the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) Jawhar. Sumitra Shivram Hirkuda (13) had gone to visit her parents on 21 January and was given permission for the visit said PI P D Bhoye of Jawhar police station. But she returned to school on 26 January and told her friend (classmate) that she was going to the bathroom to wash her clothes and her mate did not suspect anything amiss and her mate went to attend the R-Day fete.
But even after hours later Sumitra did not return and also the door was closed from the inside so she peeped from the window and was shocked to find Sumitra hanging from the ceiling using a nylon rope. She alerted the school authorities who informed us said police.
We have sent the body for post mortem and the report confirmed hanging said the official. We have registered a case of accident death and are investigating and found a suicide note he said. The motive is not known but it is presumed that a family issue could be one of the reason and we are probing all angles and have sent the note for forensic analysis said PI Bhoye. There was no entry in the school register of her coming back to the residential school after her holidays and also the police are examining who dropped Sumitra to the school gate.
