Mumbai : A woman and her paramour have been arrested by the Waliv police for the murder of a man after he caught his wife having an extra-marital affair with a man who is incidentally is the husband of her sister! Both have been remanded in police custody till 3 March when produced before the Vasai court.

At first the police had registered a case of accidental death after the woman lied to police that her husband had committed suicide but the post mortem report revealed strangulation and the duo accused were arrested.

On 15 February night Umesh Premchand Gupta(32) a resident of Hirakunj Mali,in Dhanivbaug Vasai was found murdered and his wife Shakuntala (28) and a mother of two children, told us that he had committed suicide said Sr PI Sanjay Hazare of Waliv police. We had registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for post mortem at the J J Hospital said the official. Gupta ran an idli-dosa stall in Dahisar. Shakuntala allegedly had a roaring affair with Kamlesh Gupta who resided in Malad and Umesh found out and both would fight on the issue. So as to remove Umesh from their path the duo accused decided to bump off Umesh and hatched the plan and while Umesh was sleeping the duo strangulated him to death said PI Hazare. Shakuntala called Kamlesh from Malad and using her dupatta strangulated Umesh said police.

When we reached the spot Shakuntala told that Umesh had committed suicide and we registered a case of accidental death and began to probe he said.

Meantime the post mortem report from J J Hospital revealed that Umesh was strangulated to death as there was strangulation marks on his neck and the needle of suspicion was on Shakuntala and during questioning she confessed to the crime and named her paramour Kamlesh who is the husband of her sister said PI Hazare. We arrested the duo for murder on Sunday and when produced before the Vasai court on Monday both the accused have been remanded in police custody till 3 March he said.
