WORKER DIES IN VASAI LEATHERWARE UNIT BLAZE

MUMBAI: A worker was roasted to death in an early morning blaze in a reputed leatherware unit in Navghar in Vasai. The cause of the fire is not known as the unit was closed for the day. 

The fire was reported in the Choudhary International Private Limited which has a unit in Satoli,Vasai(E) since the past two decades. The head office of the unit is located in Andheri (E). 

According to Dilip Palav, chief fire officer of the Vasai civic body, we received a call of the fire at around 0430 hours and my personnel rushed to the spot and after the fire for 2 hours it was brought under control. During cooling operations we found the body of one Javed (40) who was charred beyond recognition he said. The victim was sleeping inside the unit and was caught in the blaze and the factory operates only during the day shift and fortunately more casualties were not reported said Palav. Only the night securityman and the victim was present inside the unit he said. Around 5 tenders and 2 jumbo water tankers with 12000 lit capacity each controlled the fire he said. The cause of the fire is not known and the Vasai police are probing the matter said Palav. The unit manufactures and exports pure leather footwear and other allied products.
